UN development goals
The Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG) in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) acts as the Secretariat for the SDGs, providing substantive support and capacity-building for the goals and their related thematic issues, including water, energy, climate, oceans, urbanization, transport, science and technology, the Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR), partnerships and Small Island Developing States. DSDG plays a key role in the evaluation of UN systemwide implementation of the 2030 Agenda and on advocacy and outreach activities relating to the SDGs.
National research prioritisation
Research Prioritisation, introduced by Government in 2012, aligns the majority of competitively awarded public investment in research with 14 priority areas. Research Priority Areas 2018 to 2023 revises these areas to ensure that Ireland optimises the opportunities arising from new science and technology developments and disruptions.
Knowledge Transfer Ireland’s mission is to support business and the research base to maximise innovation from State funded research by getting technology, ideas and expertise into the hands of business, swiftly and easily for the benefit of the public and the economy.
